Enabling Ping will make network troubleshooting easier which allows all inbound ICMP traffics and this also includes the echo requests by using this common command.
Requests will expire as shown in the image below before Ping is enabled.
This guide outlines the basic steps to enable and disable Ping from the Windows firewall on Windows 2022 server.
To Enable Ping for IPv4
Open the firewall on Windows server 2022 by giving a command in firewall.cpl in the run dialog box. (To get the run dialog box, please use the shortcut key Windows key+R).
Click on Advanced settings from the left-hand side options and this page will lead to the firewall control panel as indicated in the screenshot.
The firewall control panel will be shown once the advanced settings are clicked.
On clicking the Inbound Rules, the set of rules set page will be displayed. Locate File and Printer Sharing (echo request: ICMPv4 in).
Right-click on the rule list and click Enable Rule, this will enable the Ping functionality for the server.
Once done, please close the firewall. You would be able to test the ping in the shell or command prompt from your local end.
To Enable Ping for IPv6
Select the Locate File and Printer Sharing (echo request: ICMPv6 in) from the Inbound Rules:
To Disable Ping for IPv4
Select the Locate File and Printer Sharing (echo request: ICMPv4 in) from the Inbound Rules - Right-click and then choose Disable Rule.
To Disable Ping for IPv6
Select the Locate File and Printer Sharing (echo request: ICMPv6 in) from the Inbound Rules - Right-click and then choose Disable Rule.
